Project Goal:
The project is a remodeling of a 1970s remodeling of a 1938 house. (Note: the 1970's remodeling is the work of a different owner/architect/contractor team). The owners bought the house in the late 1990s. Although they generally liked the exterior, they grew to dislike the interior. There were no windows to the street, limited windows to the backyard, and no canopy at the front entry. Two stairways were necessary to access both halves of the upstairs and the square footage was tight for their growing family. Not surprisingly, there were roof management problems (an inverted roof in snowy, icy Minnesota is not the best idea).

Outcome:
New construction at the entry provides a canopy and solves the roof drainage problem. New construction at the rear adds additional space and connects the two sides of the 2nd floor with a hallway. Most significantly, the previous flat feeling house now has much greater visual depth.
