Hollywood Studio of Dance
Minneapolis, MN
Project Goals:
Hollywood Studio of Dance is a non-profit, parent managed dance schoolestablished by Diane Elliott in 1993. It is located in a diverse community in north Minneapolis. Hollywood purchased a second building directly west of the existing studio. Their expansion goals included creating a new dance studio, merchandise sales counter, and waiting area as well as restoring an old connection between the buildings.
Project Status:
Exterior changes include removing bars from the storefront, a new security gate, new exterior signage and a metal canopy. New storefront windows provide a trophy display space. A new sales counter provides a location to purchase supplies such as shoes and leotards. Parents may relax on benches in the viewing hall while watching through windows to the dance floor. The hall leads to a break-out space for working on steps while not in class. Wall murals, created by William Watkins, whimsically depict the motion of dance.
Paula Pentel, Secretary of Hollywood's Board of Directors, served as the project manager: coordinating volunteers in the demolition and construction of the new facility and playing a key role in the procurement of materials and donations from local businesses and funding sources.
